Hey y’all! I’m Kristin.

I am a wife and mom of 3 in central Indiana where I’ve been teaching music since 2014. I started as a private voice teacher and then moved to public schools where I taught choir, general music, and piano. After my daughter was born, I decided I wanted to stay at home with her so I started my studio and left a full time job with only five students on the roster. The Lord blessed me and I quickly grew to a full roster.
As a student, I had very rigid piano lessons…
– scales, technical exercises, classical repertoire. At the time, all I wanted to do was be able to accompany myself singing or play worship music with my church’s praise band. But that’s not what I was learning at all!
Don’t get me wrong – scales, technique, and classical pieces are not bad! In fact, I think they’re important to still include in lessons.
But I decided that as a piano teacher…
I wanted to make lessons fun and engaging for all students. I do this by using improvisation, composition, and fun practice challenges. Most importantly, though, I listen to my students’ goals and dreams and give them the tools to accomplish those goals. And I’m helping other piano teachers do the same thing!
When I’m not teaching piano or helping other teachers, I’m homeschooling my kids or making delicious food in our always messy kitchen. I love reading, knitting, watching Survivor, and spending each day with my sweet kids.
You can hear more of my story on the Teach Music Online Podcast where I had a great conversation with Carly about building flexibility into my studio.
