Teach with Joy!
Are you a piano teacher wanting to convert your studio online but you don’t know where to start? Or maybe you’re a teacher who wants to take their studio to the next level? Do you need fresh ideas for your lesson time or some guidance on how to teach your students important skills like sight reading, improvising, or composing? Are you looking for a piano teacher workshop to attend this year?
If you answered yes to any of the questions above, the Piano Teachers’ Studio Summit is for you!
Does This Sound Like You?
So often in our profession it’s easy to get stuck in the same cycle year after year. We pull out the same method book series, the same pieces we’ve recommended for years, the same activities, maybe even the same recital themes or programs. But if we do that too much, it is a disservice to us and frankly it’s a disservice to the students and the parents who are spending their precious time and money for our services.
There are a few not-so-shining moments I can remember in the past 10 years of teaching music. In my first year or two of teaching, I had a middle school student who really wanted to learn how to play piano, but I just found that I could not keep her motivated to practice. A few years later, I noticed a younger student online just had a glazed over look during a lesson and, if I’m honest, I probably had that same glazed over look that day, too. Finally, one distinct teaching memory came in 2022 when I was pregnant with my second child and realized I needed my teaching income to continue throughout my maternity leave (check out this post to learn more about what I did and how I did it).
In each of those instances, I recognized that something needed to change in my studio. I learned all I could and tried new things. I kept what worked and ditched the things that massively failed. Although I am not a perfect teacher, I want to share all the things that worked for me and help a few teachers along the way – and I’m hoping to learn even more in the process!
